Syrian Refugee Petition Update

Syrian refugees behind a fence
Women and children among Syrian refugees striking at the platform of Budapest Keleti railway station. Refugee crisis. Budapest, Hungary, Central Europe, 4 September 2015.

I didn’t break a hundred with my petition to bring more Syrian refugees, faster, to Canada, which disappointed me. It also led me to understand how complex social media is. However, what I wanted to achieve is happening anyway. My petition was followed by another that got many more people to sign, and, most significantly, Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister designate of Canada, promised in his campaign to radically increase both the numbers and the speed of arrival of Syrian refugees.

On a more micro level, my church, Maple Grove United, is working with a synagogue and a mosque to bring in a Syrian family, as described here – http://www.thestar.com/news/insight/2015/11/02/religious-groups-in-halton-join-hands-to-sponsor-syrian-refugees.html ACT, Abraham’s Children Together, is waiting for the family of seven to actually arrive.
