Antonia Zerbisias, one of the most perceptive of columnists, has an article in the Toronto Star describing the impact of social media, especially Twitter and Facebook, on even small business’s Public Relations. When I started on Twitter, in January 2008, I added many ‘friends’ I was already following in other social media, and some of my fellow freelancers from the Halton-Peel Communicators Association. My social media friends I had discovered from blogging on Elgg (now Eduspaces), a network aimed at academics studying education and learning. I browsed blogs in Elgg and found people to follow. I loved the social quality and having ‘friends’ online. Anyone who followed me, I followed back, ’cause that was the custom and the polite thing to do.

Twitter & Demographics

I spent some time with a young friend today (she's 16) and we talked a bit about Twitter. She uses it with her friends and some really old lady in England. (Even I agree with "really old" to describe someone who is apparently 104.) I was curious about how she and I fit the demographics of Twitter-users, so I went to Google and found this, based on a PEW report –
